No matter what type of flooring you have, chances are you’ve wondered about non-toxic floor cleaners.  There are lots of options for you, from green stain removers to hardwood floor cleaners. Let’s look at a few options for cleaning with non-toxic floor cleaners.

Non-Toxic Cleaners for removing stains from carpet (non-oily stains)

Use vinegar to remove non-oily stains from carpet. Use a mix of one tsp liquid dish detergent and 1 tsp distilled vinegar. Mix this into 2 1/2 cups of lukewarm water. Apply this mix to the stain. Rub with a soft brush or a towel and blot dry.  We recommend repeating this until the stain is gone. Then dry the spot quickly with a hair dryer or fan.

Non-Toxic Fragrant Floor Cleaner

Here’s a great recipe for a non-toxic fragrant floor cleaner that’s easy to use.

2 tbsp liquid dish detergent

4-8 tbsp white distilled vinegar

6 tbsp fragrant herbal TEA (like a peppermint, for instance)

Combine all of this in a bucket of water and mix until it lathers a little. Use as needed; you may need to “rinse” after with just warm water.

Discard after use.

Cleaner for Vinyl Floors

A great floor cleaner for vinyl floors is to add 2/3 of a cup of vinegar to a gallon of water. This will keep vinyl floors clean and shiny!

Finally, here’s a great option for wood floors that haven’t been varnished:

Use a mix of lemon juice and water.  It’s that simple!

Non-toxic floor cleaners don’t have to be complicated. They can be as simple as using common things you have at home: Baking soda, vinegar, and lemon juice.  Other options include adding a few drops of an essential oil for a lovely smell, or adding a few drops of  dish detergent, depending on what you’re cleaning.
