As we make our way into 2021, there are new home design and remodeling trends emerging based on our experiences from the past year.  If we’ve learned anything, it’s that our homes need to be as functional for us as possible. They also need to be inviting spaces that showcase our personalities. Two trends for this year that focus on these “needs” are designated spaces and bold colors.
Designated Spaces
The idea of “designated space” seems contrary to the “open concept” plans we’re accustomed to. However, having a separate space for your office, gym, and reading nook can play an important role in your overall well-being. You’ll be less stressed and more focused on the task at hand if you’re working in an office space instead of at your dining room table.
Achieving designated spaces doesn’t have to be complicated. You can use a spare bedroom as an office, take the unused space in your finished basement and use it for a gym, or turn a corner of the kids’ playroom into a homework space.
2021 Home Design Trends
An easy way to define these spaces or add personality to them is with your flooring selection. While you may not have the ability to completely replace the flooring in your guest room, for instance, you can add an area rug in your office section. Doing this literally defines the space as your office. Plus, if you’re adding a desk and chair, this area rug can help to protect your hardwood floors.
Bold Colors

Adding color to your home can set a space apart and show off your personality. Whether it’s the red rock of Moab or the tropical hues of Hawaii, there are lots of ways to add color without breaking the bank.
One fun way to add color to your kitchen is with a tile backsplash. There are so many designs and fun colors to choose from that you’ll be able to find one that fits your budget, time constraints, and design style.
If you have time for a bigger project this year, consider adding or replacing the tile in one of your bathrooms.  Let the tile colors and designs make an impact!
